A little about the Saint Helena pound.
The Saint Helena
pound is the official currency of the British territory islands of Saint Helena,
Ascension Island and Tristan de Cunha. The Saint Helena pound is pegged to the
value of the British pound at par. Saint Helena does not have a central bank of
its own and all banknotes are issued by the local government, there is currently
only one commercial bank operating on Saint Helena. Like the pound sterling the
Saint Helena pound is divided into 100 pennies or “p” for short. Currently
coins are issued in denominations of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. All
of the coins are the same size and have the same properties as their sterling
counterparts. Banknotes are issued in denominations of £5, £10 and £20. All
older notes remain exchangeable.
