Bank destroy Le 1 Billion Bank notes

The Central Bank of Sierra Leone on Monday, June 12, 2006 destroyed the sum of one billion Leones bank notes as starting point for the destruction of a total of Le 6.8 billion used bank note of various denominations considered as haven lost their market value. The bank notes were placed in a slant shredder that cut the banknotes in to shreds. The destruction process was witnessed by a number of people among them the Inspector General of Police, the Internal Auditor at the Bank of Sierra Leone and the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ).
